The China APEC Business Travel Card photo requirements are defined by the Chinese authorities and are based on international biometric standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Document 9303. When you apply for a China‑issued ABTC, your photograph must fully comply with these guidelines. But worry not, our online photo-making tool automatically converts your original photo into a 100% compliant image that follows all requirements listed below.
One digital photo is usually required for online submissions, but keep an additional printed image in case it’s requested by the issuing authority.
An ABTC photo must be taken within the last six months to accurately reflect the applicant’s current appearance.
A passport-size photo 300x400 pixels is required, with the head height taking up 70–80% of the image. With the resolution of 300 DPI, the photo size is 2.54 × 3.39 cm or 25.4 × 33.9 mm.
Only color photographs are accepted for ABTC applications; black‑and‑white or heavily filtered photos are not permitted.
The background must be plain white, uniform, and free of shadows, patterns, textures, and borders.
The APEC card photo requires even, professional lighting that shows natural skin tones and hair color.
The applicant must face the camera directly, with the head centered and the face and shoulders square to the lens. The full face must be visible from chin to crown.
A neutral expression is required, with eyes open and mouth closed.
Uniforms, camouflage patterns, or very light clothing that blends into the white background aren’t allowed. An applicant must wear darker, plain clothing that contrasts with the background. Head coverings are not allowed unless worn for religious or medical reasons.
Glasses are generally discouraged; if worn, the frames must not cover the eyes, and the lenses must be free of glare, reflections, or tint. Sunglasses and colored lenses are not allowed in ABTC photos.
APEC card photos must be printed on high‑quality matte or glossy photo paper and submitted without creases, spots, ink marks, etc.
The digital image must be a sharp, high‑resolution color photo in RGB, at least 300 DPI, saved as a high‑quality JPG/JPEG file with a size between 40 KB and 120 KB.
The APEC Business Travel Card is a document issued to Chinese professionals and other eligible businessmen, frequently travelling in the APEC region.
Instead of applying for a new short‑term business visa before every trip, the ABTC holders use this card. It allows to go through dedicated fast‑track lanes at immigration and without the hassle of preparing paperwork for each visit.
In China, the card is arranged through the employer, and the application has to include a recent colour photo on a plain white background, plus its digital version. It's important to prepare a compliant, biometric‑style photo in advance to avoid delays or rejections. Use our online photo-making tool to get an ABTC card photo in under 30 seconds.

Camera settings. Use the back camera and place the phone about 2 meters (around 6.5 feet) away, or use the front camera and hold it about 50 cm (around 20 inches) from your face. Turn off portrait mode, set the timer for 3 or 10 seconds, and take a few sharp photos.
Processing in PhotoGov. Upload the best shot to PhotoGov, select the China APEC Business Travel Card option, and let the tool automatically crop, resize, and adjust the background to meet the requirements.

PhotoGov formats your portrait according to the official photo specifications for the China‑issued APEC Business Travel Card, following Chinese authorities’ requirements and biometric guidelines based on ICAO Doc 9303 principles. The system automatically adjusts the background, head position, and facial proportions, and applies the exact 25 × 34 mm / 300 × 400 px layout used for China APEC Business Travel Card photos, ensuring that every technical element — from the distance between key facial features to overall brightness and contrast — matches the standards used during ABTC photo checks.
For applicants who want an extra layer of assurance, PhotoGov offers Human Verification. Our dedicated compliance specialist manually reviews the image, checking alignment, lighting, head size, background uniformity, and biometric accuracy before approving the final file.

Your photo should be taken within the last 6 months to accurately reflect your current appearance.
You can use a digital photo for an online submission, but a printed photo may be required for an in-person application, so it’s better to have both. Upon checkout at PhotoGov, you can download a printable DPF file and a digital picture.
Yes. PhotoGov automatically adjusts the background and fine‑tunes brightness, contrast, and framing to meet China APEC Business Travel Card photo requirements.
