Global ID Photo Policy

Learn about the PhotoGov service compliance with the global ID photo policies & digital modification restrictions

PhotoGov’s Compliance with Global Regulations

PhotoGov.net fully complies with global photo regulations — from ICAO biometric standards to the specific governmental requirements of individual countries. Our system aligns with all official frameworks governing photo dimensions, proportions, and data handling for identity documents.

Our system processes each uploaded image through a secure, automated workflow hosted on our own GPU servers. PhotoGov adjusts the size, proportions, and background of the photo according to the official requirements of the selected document type.
All operations — from background preparation to final sizing — are performed locally within PhotoGov’s infrastructure, without transferring images to any third-party services. This ensures accuracy, speed, and full compliance with international ID photo standards.

Digital ID Photo Modifications Policies & Our Service

Many countries enforce strict rules that prohibit any kind of digital alteration of identification photographs — including passports, ID cards, and visa images. These regulations protect the accuracy of biometric data and ensure that official photos reflect a person’s real appearance without software-based enhancements.

Selected Countries & Their Rules

United States:

Digital photo alterations are banned for passport-size and other official ID photos.

United Kingdom:

Photos must be original and “unaltered by computer software” for both printed and digital submissions.

Canada:

All photos must be original, taken by a professional photographer, and “not altered in any way (editing, cropping, filters, etc.)” when used for passport or visa applications.

Germany:

From 1 May 2025, passport photos must be taken by certified photographers and transferred securely, with manipulation explicitly disallowed.

Global / ICAO Standard:

The international biometric photo standard states that the image “shall not be digitally altered or enhanced to change the subject’s appearance in any way.”

Our Commitment: PhotoGov fully complies with these regulations across all jurisdictions. We perform only permitted adjustments — such as sizing, cropping, and background correction — strictly within the limits defined by government and international standards.

Why Compliance Matters

Digital alterations can distort essential biometric characteristics such as facial proportions, eye spacing, or skin tone. By strictly following national and international rules, PhotoGov guarantees that every photo generated on our platform is suitable for official identification and passport applications worldwide.
