Get a 3x4 Photo Size Online for Free — All You Need is a Selfie

Pixel dimensions depend on print resolution. If an online form sets its own pixel or file-size limits, follow that form.
A 3x4 picture has no universal digital properties. Online portals set individual technical specifications for image dimensions and file size — always follow official requirements before submitting.

A 3x4 ID photo is measured in centimeters — it is a universal standard used in many IDs. Don’t mix it up with 3x4-inch photos, which, if printed, would have a much larger size — 76 × 102 mm, more common for albums and framed pictures, and not suitable for ID photos. While a 30 × 40 mm photo has a 3:4 aspect ratio, the two terms are not interchangeable. A 3:4 image simply defines proportions, which can apply to any resolution—such as a smartphone shot at 3024 × 4032 pixels. Certain guidelines specify this ratio rather than physical print dimensions like 3 × 4 cm. For instance, Colombia's consulate in Guadalajara requests visa photos "a escala 3x4" on a white background, submitted as a JPG under 300 KB.

Several countries officially require a 3 × 4 cm (30 × 40 mm) photo for residence permits, travel cards, and visa applications. The table below lists the verified specifications from the respective issuing authorities (checked in September 2026):

Many documents commonly referred to as "3x4" don't actually use that exact format. For instance, the South Korean residence card application requires a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo, the Chinese passport issued via the U.S. embassy — a 33 × 48 mm photo, and the Brazilian passport application submitted through the Atlanta consulate — 2 × 2 inches. Position yourself against a plain, light background with balanced, even light on your face to eliminate shadows.

Remove headwear and eyeglasses (which are prohibited for documents like the Vietnamese ABTC).

Keep the camera at eye level using a tripod, or have someone take the shot using the rear camera. Turn off portrait mode and filters.

Look straight into the lens with a neutral expression and your eyes open, keeping your head and upper shoulders centered in the frame.

Take a few shots, select the sharpest one, and upload it to the 3x4 photo maker.

At home: print on matte or glossy photo paper at 100% scale with auto-scaling ("Fit to Page") disabled. Check the physical print: it should measure exactly 3 cm by 4 cm.
